Self-Reflections for Phases

Phase 3 Reflection

During this phase assignment, I learned that writing a research paper isn’t

exactly the most complicated assignment ever. I learned that it doesn’t have to be so

hard to get things to write about. In high school my senior year for my research class

at the end of the year our final assignment was to create a research paper and a

presentation based on the research paper. When I was writing that paper I struggled to

get my thoughts down on paper and find accurate and sufficient information. With this

assignment, I feel that I was able to get most of my ideas down without too much of a

struggle. This assignment helped me achieve course learning outcome 2 which is to

“Locate research sources (including academic journal articles, magazine and

newspaper articles) in the library’s databases or archives and on the Internet and

evaluate them for credibility, accuracy, timeliness, and bias.” I feel that with this

assignment I was able I was able to find resources from academic journals and articles

from the CCNY library. Before I didn’t look to use library sources for any

assignment, this assignment required me to use them and now I have experience with

the library. I even had to ask for help from a librarian to get my sources for my

research paper. So I’ve had experience with the library in multiple ways, and now I am

prepared and ready to write papers in the future in this school. For Phase 3 I tailored

my language to a more informative tone and I relied on the articles I found to

direct my argument. My purpose was to inform the people reading my paper that

fairytales have deep-rooted problems that must be addressed.

Phase 2 Reflection

During this phase, the most meaningful insight I found was that I enjoy

reading others’ opinions on the topics and books I read because I can respond

and give my feedback. This Phase helped me “develop strategies for reading.

drafting, collaborating, revising, and editing.” For this phase 1 peer-reviewed

with Stephanie Ramales and with her help I was able to give a good exploratory

essay in my opinion. In this essay, my language choices appealed to the readers

by drawing them in with a hook at the beginning of the essay. The rhetorical

choices I used, which were tone helped to draw in the reader. This has been my ‘

favorite so far.

Phase 1 Reflection

In this phase, I learned how to go into detail in situations (especially mine).

I feel that have gotten better at describing things in detail. This phase has helped

me “develop strategies for reading, drafting, collaborating, revising, and editing.”

When we did the phase we had the opportunity to draft, get feedback, and edit.

I feel having the help of my peers helped me get out the best narrative

I had to give at the moment. I tailored my language and rhetorical choices

to appeal to the reader and tried to come off as informally comforting, but at the same

time formal if that makes sense. It was really hard writing about myself, but I feel

I put a good foot forward writing the essay.
